Mother: Your father told me you were brilliant today. Did he tell you that?
Me: No, of course not! We're not allowed to communicate such things directly!
(After I said that I went and opened the fridge and did a happy dance behind the door.)

Later at tea:
Mother: Husband, I told Daughter that you said she was brilliant today.
Me: (face in hands)
