I love medical breakthroughs. There are so many evil things that go on in pharmaceuticals, so it's nice to see that medicine, you know, does good things. I know that seems a stupid thing to say - DUH, medicine is good... but I've been hearing bad things in the last year, and recently some good things like
the Australian breakthrough in finding a vaccine for bird flu (so stop panicking!)
Bill Gates is, I heard, funding preliminary testing of a vaccine for HIV that is being developed (human testing, I assume?) and I also heard he rarely puts money towards such things unless his sources say it might work
Old news, but I'll include it - SIDS research finally getting somewhere, and saying that there is a genetic predisposition - it achieves nothing at this point, but it's a step forward
Also old news, but it made me kinda happy to hear - the [male!] Japanese scientist who brought a little dark brown mouse from two female biological parents... there's no way it'll apply in my lifetime (it'd be cool if it did... me and the girlfriend are such sexy biatches we would have the cutest babies ever - they'd be short and dark and nerdy but also CUTE!) but it's cool
HPV vaccine, and they're developing one for "the clam"
