i don't believe in karma; in heaven; in fate; in souls; or in god. i do believe in rationality; that our world is wrong; that beings should be equal, not separarate; and in you

So, apparently there is a fuss about a new film, "Turistas", in Brazil. The film features a man who lures US tourists in order to harvest their organs for sale on the black market. 'It will hurt tourism!' say the Brazilians. You know, they're probably right. The kind of idiots who attend cinema every day are the sorts who believe whatever they're told. Here's an idea: how about a horror movie about the truth?
"Mexico Murder" could be about the 350-or-so, though closer to 450, Mexican girls and women, ages 6-30, who are kidnapped, gang-raped, mutilated, tortured, killed and dumped in the deserts near Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua. Of course, authorities start off claiming there is no relation between the huge number of victims of this disgusting killing chain, but over the next thirteen years they choose a new strategy and begin to alternate between arresting a number of scapegoats and saying "look, we fixed it!... oh, whoops, another 16-year-old's ravaged body has turned up in the desert" and actually finding real perpetrators. Neither stops these hate crimes and acts of terrorism. Theories are forumlated throughout the film, one being that some of the murders were funded by incarcerated Abdel Latif Sharif, the rest copycat killers. Another: crime rings operate freely; bribes and threats to police, along with their (the police's) incompetence, omissions and negligence in investigating these crimes and the police's active involvement in the crimes themselves mean justice cannot be found by those who are meant to serve that ideal. (A quick break from the film synopsis genre to proclaim: Gasp! Police, rapists? NEVER! Surely that doesn't happen ALL THE TIME, in EVERY NATION. Meanin' no 'ffense to anyone who knows cops - obviously, MOST aren't like that.) The film cleverly skirts away from the question of why it is SO EASY for these evil people (and I try not to use the word 'evil' frivolously) to pick out women as their victims. Clearly, hearing about these attacks didn't turn their minds to the worst form of misogyny - it was not a case of their suddenly changing to monsters, it was a case of their suddenly having an opportunity to act out their true feelings towards female adults and children. At the end of "Mexico Murder", after thrilling chases and twists in the tale, we'd actually get to the real perpetrators and be treated to the scene that is commonplace in cinema - rape! All the boys could jerk off to this sexy, sexy scene and not bother thinking about the fact that their oppressing the 'sex class' is exactly what makes the crime lords and general population target women first, exactly what makes people generally not give a shit.
