Chomp.
2006-10-13 - 12:34 a.m. This is why it's important to get your letter writing out of the way quickly. I was half asleep when I tapped out my latest - to the point that it's so inarticulate and weak that I'll even show you:
Your Excellency, I am writing to you today regarding the fates of seven women sentenced to death by sangsar: (name, name...). Each of these women is to be punished for their crimes, but Iran herself becomes a criminal if the country turns away from the 2002 moratorium of this practice. The Qu'ran says “God is the Forgiving, the Loving.” (85:14). ...blah blah some technicalities... Stoning these women to death would also go against Iran’s committment (article 6(2) of the International Covenent on Civil and Political Rights). I ask you to commute these seven women's sentences. I trust that you will work towards the most merciful, fair and human actions possible in this cause in your great nation. I ask that you not allow these women to be stoned to death. I also would like to express my concern ...blah blah blah other crimes against women... against humanity, Iran's laws and moral authorities. [my own special way of inserting a 'my oh my do I like the Qu'ran, sir!'] Thank you very much for your consideration in these issues, blankety blank Ooooh, yep. Pandering, but not in the right way, and I know it doesn't make any difference and they'll all be tortured to death anyway (first death will occur in about... hmm. I'd say fifteen hours?), and that, folks, is why you write stuff... yeah. Beforehand. [Blah blah blah skips so you'll get the gist. Don't worry, by the time you've read this they'll be dead anyway; the details of names, dates, crimes (though it's mostly 'adultery' [aka got raped by brother-in-law, was forced into prostitution by husband, and maybe, sometimes, ACTUALLY had an affair]) will be irrelevant.] Anyway, the thing I was getting to was that, you know, doesn't matter, die anyway, etc. But then, it's not exactly as though it's a great strain (internet forms? INTERNET FORMS!) so you haven't laboured for seventy hours to have a stillborn child or anything.
