2006-04-11 - 5:38 p.m. 'The cure for pedophilia is death' The public hates pedophiles. Understandable. Of course you do. Move on. When it's discussed, why don't we sit and say 'Here's how we can prevent it.' 'Here's how we can prevent the victims' shame.' 'Here's how we can fight the circle of silence.' No, instead we get "I HATE THEM!" "ME, TOO, EVERYONE, LOOK AT ME AND SEE HOW MUCH I HATE THEM!' What I'm forcibly reminded of is homophobic gays, highschool jocks shrieking 'I HATE GAYS, HAHA LET'S BEAT THE FAGS,' and in the evenings getting hard watching the football. Reaction formation, much? We make our 'monster', the pedophile, the leud, ugly man with a creepy smile who attacks strangers' beautiful (white, and polite) little girls. Because we're terrified. Thousands of kids are raped and sexually abused by their fathers, their brothers, their sisters, their aunts, their cousins, their grandfathers, in this country; and the vast majority never say a damned word to anyone, ever. It's ingrained in our society. Barely an eyebrow is raised when a three-year-old wears sexual clothing.
People don't give a fuck about fighting pedophilia. They just want everyone to know how much they hate it. Of course, they shriek because they're terrified. Who isn't? We can't tell who wants to harm us by looking at them; if pedophiles don't all have creepy smiles anc speech impediments, how are we meant to tell them from the "normal people"? But you know what? When a gunman points a gun at a kid, you're meant to do all you can to stop that, despite how scary that gun is. It doesn't matter how scary it is, people need to stop shrieking and start doing something. |
